Should you go for an Associate or a Bachelor Degree?

Well, this is one of the most frequently asked questions on the internet when it comes to Occupational Therapy. Some of the schools mentioned above offer both, Associate and Bachelor degrees.

An Associate degree is a 2-year long program. The degree holders for this particular program may take an NBCOT exam after completion of their degree. However, the Associate degree holders can only go for an Occupational Therapist Assistant’s board exam.

  1. On the contrary, a Bachelor (4 years) degree will allow you to sit for NBCOT’s Occupational Therapist exam.

In conclusion, if you only plan to become only an Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) and then transfer to another profession later, you’re good. However, if you want to go forward in this field, you will have to get a Bachelor’s degree.

Lastly, after you’re done with your degree, you may sit for a National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam. You may take this exam in Louisiana and throughout the USA to become a certified therapist.
